LULLABY THE STORM (EX FROM AUTUMN TO ASHES, TAKING BACK SUNDAY) DEBUT ALBUM “3 LANES PAINTED RED” Scott Gross didn’t expect to be here. “It was September 13th 2007 and I was on I-95 in New Jersey. The rental car I had broke down and I pulled over to the shoulder of the road. I got out of the car to walk to the back and that’s all I remember.” Another car had crashed into his pining him between and causing massive injuries to his leg, back and head. “They were going to call me in as deceased” he reveals. “For the past two years I have been chained to a bed, going to physical therapy daily and undergoing multiple surgeries for my leg which is mostly metal at this point. I also have two torn rotator cuffs which I still have to have surgery for. 98% of the time the pain is off the scale, music definitely helps to take my mind off of it.” Expressing his pain through music, Gross formed Lullaby The Storm whose debut album 3 Lanes Painted Red is a direct postcard of his mental state. Dreamy and clean, the songs range from indie pop to more somber acoustic based pieces. Listeners will be thrown from Gross’s previous work in From Autumn To Ashes of which he was a founding member. “When I left FATA I took a break from heavy music and began to explore the acoustic guitar. I got turned on to artists like Eliott Smith and Jack’s Mannequin. I took a break from writing and searched for inspiration.” Speaking on the album Gross said “it’ll only take one listen to see that this is a concept album and it's easy to see what the concept is.” Featuring female vocalist Mari-Elana, the songs have a dreamlike quality that reach past pain into lulling you into security, the calming of the storm. Mari-Elana is the brother of Antonio Longo who was the original vocalist of Taking Back Sunday. He came up with all of the vocal melodies, harmonies and vocal arrangements. “Antonio is a old friend of mine, we were room mates, I was just his best man but I had no idea about Mari’s vocal abilities until she came down to do a guest spot on the demos and I just knew I had to get her to sing on all of the songs.” Recording over the better part of the last year, the group worked out of the Gross’s home studio. Gross who is currently recovering from getting another pin inserted in his back said of the sessions “The best therapy I received is being able to get out of bed, go downstairs and record music with this group of people. Getting out of bed is not usually easy for me but I am always able to do it when we record.” The group is already working on their next album which Gross claims is more upbeat “Once I wrote 3 Lanes I worked through that mood and mode, it’s an extremely personal but honest album.” Share this on Twitter!
